With your NHS Athens account, you have access to a range of databases across multiple platforms.
Platforms
Ovid
The Ovid platform gives access to Medline, Embase, Emcare, HMIC and Social Policy & Practice databases. Search Ovid at the link below – sign in with Athens by clicking the ‘OpenAthens | Institutional’ link at the bottom of the login page.
EBSCO
The EBSCO platform gives access to Medline and CINAHL databases. Search EBSCO at the link below – sign in with Athens by clicking ‘Sign in with an OpenAthens account’ on the login page.

With your NHS Athens account, you have access to the following databases.
CINAHL
Covers all aspects of nursing and allied health disciplines from 1981 onwards.
Embase
Pharmacology, biomedical and psychiatry database, from 1974 onwards.
Emcare
Nursing and allied health database, from 1995 onwards.
HBE
Health Business Elite database covers health management and administration, from 1922 onwards.
HMIC
Management database from the King’s Fund and Department of Health publications.
Medline
Comprehensive medical database covering all disciplines, from 1946 onwards.
Social Policy and Practice
Public health and social science database, from 1890 onwards.
NHS Knowledge and Library Hub
The NHS Knowledge and Library Hub is a discovery system that can search over 7,000 journals, books and ebooks from our library catalogue, NICE pathways and guidelines, and databases like Medline, Embase and CINAHL. Search using the search box below. On the results page, click the yellow bar at the top of the page to log in using your NHS Athens account.
PubMed
If you prefer to use PubMed, use the link below to also include the library journal holdings in your search results. Click the ‘Get Full Text’ or ‘Download PDF’ button and login with your NHS Athens account to access the full-text. If articles are not available in full-text you will be re-directed to a pre-populated inter-library request form – just add your name and email address, then we will use our networks to try and obtain a copy for you from another library.
